What Can You Drink on Keto? A Full Guide to Allowed Beverages
One of the most common mistakes on keto is ignoring beverages. A single glass of fruit juice or milk can blow through your entire daily carb limit on its own. Here's the full list of keto-friendly and keto-unfriendly drinks.
On keto, what you drink matters just as much as what you eat.
β Allowed Beverages
- Water: The best choice. Aim for 2.5β3 liters a day. You can add a slice of lemon.
- Black Coffee: Unsweetened, no milk β filter or espresso. Bulletproof coffee (butter + MCT oil) pairs perfectly with keto.
- Green and Herbal Tea: All unsweetened herbal teas are fine. Ginger and cinnamon tea support metabolism.
- Sparkling Water: Plain or flavored (sugar-free) β helps replace lost electrolytes.
- Bone Broth: Rich in electrolytes and collagen β great for keto flu.
- Coconut Milk: Choose the unsweetened version, use in small amounts.
β Beverages to Strictly Avoid
- Fruit Juices: 1 glass of orange juice = 26g of carbs. Blows your daily limit on its own.
- Soda: Cola, Fanta, Sprite β completely off-limits.
- Milk: 1 glass of whole milk = 12g of carbs. Even a small amount adds up β be careful.
- Ready-Made Tea and Coffee Drinks: Sweetened, milky ready-to-drink beverages are a carb bomb.
- Energy Drinks: Most are loaded with sugar. Sugar-free versions also raise artificial sweetener concerns.
- Alcohol: Beer is off-limits (high in carbs). Wine and spirits can be tolerated in limited amounts.
What Can You Drink During IF?
During your fasting window (the hours you're not eating), only these drinks won't break your fast: water, black coffee, plain tea. Don't drink anything with milk or sweeteners.
